Peace Brigades International – Nepal Project In Country Coordinator
Location: Kathmandu, Nepal
Contract: Fixed term for 2 years
As a part of the German Civil Peace Service Professional program, this post is only open to citizens of one of the member States of the European Union or Switzerland or Norway, who should be 30 years of age or older.
Peace Brigades International Nepal Project is seeking to recruit a suitably qualified In Country Coordinator to take responsibility for the in-country project management of field operations in Nepal.
The In-Country Coordinator responsibilities include; the supervision of national staff,
co-ordinating duties in conjunction with a team of international staff and project
committee members as well as overseeing the field operations of two teams of international
volunteers.
Main duties, tasks and responsibilities:
Project management of field operations
• Coordinate and review the in-country organisational structure, including national staff and volunteers in order to build organisational capacity in line with field operations.
• Oversee the financial management of field operations, including developing budgets, projections, monitoring.
• Coordinate and support the activities of two field volunteer teams in Nepal.
• Contribute and develop project strategic planning processes, and regularly evaluate progress against PBI Nepal objectives.
• Ensures development and implementation of operational plans for all field activities.
• Advise on the implementation and development of PBI-Nepal policies and procedures.
Team/s representative
• Coordinate orientations of field volunteers, including the updating of orientation folders, policies and procedures, training resources and other materials.
• Preparation and coordination of deployment schedule for volunteers
• Provides input for major field team decisions, political analysis and strategic planning
• Assist with the training of field volunteers
• Provide on-call assistance in emergency situations
• Attends specific PBI Nepal team meetings, volunteer retreats, inter-project meetings and other meetings as requested
• Communicates effectively with project partners.
Government/official contact person
• Coordinate PBI-Nepal legal agreement process
• In coordination with the field volunteer team/s and other international staff posts, represent PBI-Nepal to government, security forces and diplomatic contacts and to partner organisations.
• Follow up on in-country funding proposals in coordination with PBI-Nepal out of country coordinator.
Finance & Administration oversight
• Maintain comprehensive, accurate and up-to-date files, records and systems
• Financial management and budgetary responsibility for all in country finances
• Coordinate IT-administration
• Supervises the work of national staff and interpreters
• Writes or contributes to project reports as necessary
Liaison between different PBI entities
• Liaise and communicates regularly with PBI Out of Country Coordinator and other staff as needed
• In coordination with the PBI-Nepal Out of Country Coordinator communicate with PBI Country Groups and other PBI entities
• Travels nationally and internationally for project activities as needed
• Participate in a variety of PBI Nepal and PBI committees/groups.
Other duties:
• Undertake such duties according to the philosophy of nonviolence, within the framework of international norms of human rights.
• Undertake such other duties as may reasonably be allocated, which may involve providing assistance in any area of the Project as may be required from time to time.
• Undertake all duties in accordance with PBI Nepal policies and procedures, in particular those relating to Harassment and Equal Opportunities.
• Promote PBI Nepal positively at all times.
Essential Qualifications:
• citizen of one of the member States of the European Union or Switzerland or Norway, 30 years of age or older
• One to three years Project Management experience and logistics planning
• Two years or more experience in work related to human rights, peace, and nonviolent conflict transformation work and/or other related NGO work, preferably with international field experience.
• Two years or more supervisory/management experience.
• Knowledge of the Nepal political and human rights situation
• Knowledge of nonviolent conflict transformation tactics
• Experience of managing field operations
• Experience of financial management
• Experience of using Microsoft packages including Word, Excel and Powerpoint and use of the internet
• Experience in consensus decision-making
• Experience in multi-cultural teams, cross-cultural environments
• One to three years of international work experience in Asia
• Financial management skills including developing budgets, projections and monitoring
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills needed when working with a wide range of internal and external individuals and entities
• Excellent presentation, speaking and training skills
• Ability to network and build relationships.
• Able to work strategically within PBI Nepal and in partnership with other PBI entities.
• Ability to make decisions in a complex environment and react to change in priorities.
• Able to work with minimum supervision and be self-motivated to meet tight deadlines.
• Excellent English skills (both spoken and written)
• Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
• Demonstrated commitment to nonviolence
• Positive attitude to stress and fear management.
• Field visits to be made to rural/isolated areas and often under hardship conditions
• Attendance at evening and weekend meetings/conference calls as required
Desirable
• Graduate degree required; advanced degree in human rights, political studies, international development or related field.
• Experience of coordinating and/or conducting evaluation activities
• Experience managing field volunteer activities
• Proven record in facilitation skills
• Passion for empowering people
• Ability to communicate in Nepali or a willingness to learn before deployment.
What will PBI-Nepal/CPS program provide?
